The Great Gun Run of 2020 is in full swing and given the fact that it's also an election year in the United States, it's not likely the rush will end any time soon.
Our friends at Guns.com calculated the total number of handguns sold in each caliber (9mm, .45 ACP, .380 auto, and .40 S&W) from their August 2019 - April 2020 sales. The results were no big surprise: 9 MM towers above the rest.
Along with booming gun sales, accessories like holsters and weapon-mounted lights are also in high demand and frequently out of stock or experiencing significant shipping times. Here at CrossBreed, our AMAZING production team has been on overtime since mid-November, and even with administrative team members helping out a few hours a week, we're still shipping products 3-4 weeks out.
By far, the most sought-after accessory, or necessity rather, for firearms right now is ammunition. Ammo is so scarce that if and when people find boxes on shelves or available online, it's not there long.
This is what shopping for ammo online looks like these days.
*A FRIENDLY PSA FOR ALL NEW GUN OWNERS: While we're feeling the effects of supply and demand, you should definitely beware of any site or store selling ammunition at massively inflated prices. A few months ago, practice ammo was selling for approximately $0.20/round and self-defense ammunition sold for around $1.00/round - depending on the brand, of course. Watch those prices because while you may need it, you don't want to get gouged on ammo prices.
We've scoured the interwebs and found the best places for you to get your hands on 9 MM ammo RIGHT NOW:
Great handgun ammunition comes at a cost these days and while some may balk at $2/round, others might jump at it given our current situation. Others will look for a great deal on a box of 20 and find it at Everest.com.
Right now, you can find Underwood Ammunition 9mm Luger +P+ 124 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point (Box of 20) for $14.99.
On SGAmmo.com, you can buy a 200 Round Case - 9mm Luger 150 Grain JHP Hollow Point HST Federal Premium Ammo for $299.50 - limit 1 per customer.
At roughly $1/rnd, Ammo Supply Warehouse has 50 round boxes of Federal LE 9 mm 147 gr. HI-SHOK JHP #9MS available now for $49.99.
Winning the game of ammo sales, Everest comes in for the second time in this list.
50 round boxes of Allegiance RangeStrike 9MM, FMJ, 124GR are available now for $23.00.
If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse in your area, they've got ammo available for purchase online but it's available for pick-up in-store only.
That being said, a box of 20 Barnes TAC-XPD Defense 9mm Luger +P 115gr TAC XP Handgun Ammo is available now for $20.99 (plus gas money to pick it up).
Gun owners still need to keep their shooting skills sharp and SG has a good deal for anyone looking for practice ammo. As a freelancer who runs a lot of guns, affordable ammo is a necessity and I've used Wolf ammo for years without any issues.
Right now, Sportsman's Guide has 250 rounds of Wolf WPA Polyformance, 9mm, FMJ, 115 Grain available for target shooting at $66.49 for Buyer's Club Members, and $69.99 for non-members.
Estimated availability: 10/20/2020
